How do I use Isotrexin gel?

Isotrexin gel should be applied once or twice daily to the affected area as prescribed by your doctor.

Skin should be thoroughly clean and dried with any makeup removed before the gel is applied

A thin layer should be applied on the affected area using your fingertips to smooth is out; it should be applied to all areas of acne and not just each spot. Isotrexin gel should not be applied to irritated skin, cuts or burns.

Isotrexin should be applied to the skin and away from lips, mouth or eyes. Hands should be washed before and after application of Isotrexin

 Patient should start with once daily to gauge the skins’ reaction and then increase as necessary.

Can I use Isotrexin gel if I am pregnant or breast feeding?

Isotrexin should not be used in patients who are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to get pregnant.

Can I use Isotrexin alongside other acne treatments?

It is fine to use oral antibiotic acne treatments but not another topical acne treatment as this can cause excess dryness and irritation of the skin

How long will it take Isotrexin to work?

This can vary from patient to patient but results can be seen within 4-5 weeks, with full benefits seen after 12 weeks. If no improvement there are a variety of treatments that can be trialled and you should consult your doctor

How long should I use Isotrexin for?

Isotrexin should be used for as long as it is prescribed by your doctor. If there are no improvements after 8 weeks then your doctor should be consulted to discuss an alternative.

Can I buy Isotrexin over the counter?

·       Signs of an allergic reaction (Difficulty breathing, talking or swelling of the face and tongue)

·       Red scaly rash with blisters under the skin

·       Painful rash or a burning sensation which doesn’t go away

·       Severe burning or peeling of the skin

·       Prolonged or severe diarrhoea
