Fucidin H Cream

Fucidin H cream contains active ingredients called fusidic acid and hydrocortisone. This is an antibiotic that works by stopping the bacteria from multiplying and growing and also a steroid to reduce inflammation and redness of the skin.


It comes as a cream is a prescription-only medication and is recommended for short-term use of 7 – 10 days.

Fucidin H cream is a dual-action cream for treating infections associated with eczema and psoriasis. This mild topical corticosteroid/antibiotic cream is particularly effective if your skin is broken and infected and works to stop bacteria from entering cracked skin, eliminating irritation and swelling. Fucidin H cream is suitable for most adults and children and contains the active ingredients hydrocortisone (a steroid) and fusidic acid (an antibiotic).

There are risks of possible side effects when using Fucidin H cream, as with any medication. Most side effects are quite mild and subside over time. Common side effects can include:

·       Dryness of the skin

·       Red and inflamed skin

·       Skin irritation

You should stop using Fucidin H and inform your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects

·       Signs of an allergic reaction (Difficulty breathing, talking, or swelling of the face and tongue)

·       Red scaly rash with blisters under the skin

·       Painful rash or a burning sensation which doesn’t go away

How do I use Fucidin H cream?

Fucidin H cream should be applied thinly and evenly onto the affected area twice daily. As the condition improves Fucidin H should be used for the full duration of the prescribed treatment. This is to prevent the infection from the back.

It should be applied to all affected area. Fucidin H should not be applied to irritated skin, cuts or burns.

Fucidin H should be applied to the skin and away from lips, mouth or eyes or face unless instructed by doctor.

Hands should be thoroughly washed before and after applying medication, unless hands are being treated.

Can I use Fucidin H alongside other steroid treatments?

It is fine to use other creams such as moisturiser/emollients but they should be applied 30 mins after the Fucidin H has been applied.

Can I use Fucidin H on my child?

Fucidin H should not be used in children under the age of one year old. It should be used as directed by your doctor but should not be used more than once or twice a week on your child.

How long will it take Fucidin H to work?

This can vary from patient to patient but results can be seen after a few days. If no improvement after 7 - 10 days there are a variety of treatments that can be trialled and you should consult your doctor

How long should I use Fucidin H for?

A short course for 7 - 10 days is often sufficient treatment but your doctor will specify if they want treatment to continue for longer. If there are no improvements after this course then your doctor should be consulted to discuss an alternative.

Can I buy Fucidin H over the counter?
